Oresti Baños (MSc in Telecommunications Eng. 2009, MSc in Computer Network Eng. 2010, MSc in Electrical Eng. 2011, PhD in Computer Science 2014, all with honors from the University of Granada, UGR, Spain) is currently working as an Assistant Professor of Creative Technology at the University of Twente (UT), Netherlands. He is a Research Scientist with the Biomedical Signals and Systems group (BSS), the Centre for Telematics and Information Technology (CTIT) and the Research Centre for Biomedical Technology and Technical Medicine (MIRA). He is also member of the new Centre for Monitoring and Coaching (CMC). He lectures on Smart Technology as part of the CreaTe bachelor programme of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS).
He is a former Postdoctoral Research Scientist at the Ubiquitous Computing Lab (UCLab), Kyung Hee University (KHU), South Korea. Here he led the Human Aware Technology group and he was the Technical and Scientific Coordinator of Mining Minds, an industry-oriented project in the digital health domain comprising several companies, research institutions and universities from Korea. He is also a former Research Associate at the Research Center for Information and Communications Technologies (CITIC-UGR) and Lecturer with the Department of Computer Architecture and Computer Technology (ATC), University of Granada. He has been a Visiting Researcher in several prestigious institutions such as the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ), Technical University of Eindhoven (TU/e) or the University of Alabama (UA). He has been member of the CITIC-UGR Directive Commission, the CITIC-UGR Scientific Committee as well as other prestigious boards such as the International Neural Network Society. He has participated in several Spanish and European research projects such as HPCBIO, AdaBIO, DSIPA-BIO, AmIVital, OPPORTUNITY, HPC-EUROPA2 and WHM.
He has a wide range of experience in wearable, ubiquitous, pervasive and mobile computing with a particular focus on digital health and wellness applications. His area of expertise lies within pattern recognition and machine learning for probabilistic modeling of human behavior and context-awareness. He has a strong background on multi-modal sensor data processing, data fusion and transfer learning. He is especially interested in the field of robust, adaptive, opportunistic and intelligent digital health systems. He is author of more than 50 papers, most of them indexed in top-ranked international conferences and journals. He has also supervised several MSc projects in health, wellbeing and biomedical domains. He serves as regular reviewer and program committee member in several international journals and conferences, including Medical Engineering and Physics (Elsevier), Journal of Medical and Biological Engineering (Springer), Pervasive and Mobile Computing (Elsevier), Sensors (MDPI), PervasiveHealth, Ubicomp, ISWC and CHI.
